Joyce Votes Against Reviving Obamacare

Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) today opposed a portion of the House rules package, which allows Democrats to sue to keep the Affordable Care Act in place. Title III of House Resolution 6 authorizes the Speaker, on behalf of the House, to intervene, otherwise appear, or take any other steps in Texas v. United States, a recent federal court case where the 2010 healthcare law was ruled to be unconstitutional. Joyce voted no on the measure, and reiterated that one of his main goals in Washington will be to repeal and replace Obamacare once and for all.

andldquo;As a physician, I know from experience how the Affordable Care Act has caused healthcare prices to skyrocket and has failed to put the patient first,andrdquo; said Congressman Joyce. andldquo;Voting to keep in a place a broken system that has already been invalidated in court would not be in the interests of the people I serve, and quite frankly, is a prime example of what is wrong with Washington. Instead of engaging in political gimmicks, House Democrats should be focusing on taking up commonsense healthcare legislation that protects pre-existing conditions and is centered around market-based solutions.andrdquo;

Joyce also noted how the House rules package consolidates House power in the hands of the Speaker on the issue of healthcare. andldquo;When my constituents went to the ballot box in November they voted to send me to our Capitol to represent their needs and concerns,andrdquo; Joyce added. andldquo;The people of the 13^th district do not want the fate of Obamacare in the hands of Nancy Pelosi.andrdquo;
