Dr. Joyce Opposes Defunding the Police, Pledges to Back the Blue
Washington, March 3, 2021
Washington, DC – Tonight Congressman John Joyce, M.D. released the following statement after voting in opposition to H.R. 1280.
“Tonight, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats’ brought yet another piece of radical legislation to the House Floor that would defund the police and dismantle the justice system. Equal justice under law is a cornerstone of our democracy. I am a strong defender of our law enforcement heroes and support bipartisan reforms to better equip these brave Americans to do their job. To be certain, I will oppose all efforts to defund the police and will continue to back the blue.”
Dr. Joyce is a co-sponsor of the JUSTICE Act, introduced by retired police officer Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-8), which would deliver solutions to increase transparency, accountability, and performance so our nation’s law enforcement officers are better prepared to protect and care for the communities that they serve.
At home in Pennsylvania, Dr. Joyce often meets with law enforcement leaders to hear about their experiences and to offer his support. In recent weeks, he has met with Adams County Sheriff James Muller, Blair County Sheriff James Ott, Franklin County Sheriff Dane Anthony, Allegheny Township Police Chief Leo Berg, Altoona Police Chief Janice Freehling, Altoona Area School District Public Safety Director Chief William Pfeffer, Jr., Chambersburg Police Chief Ron Camacho, and Gettysburg Police Chief Robert Glenny.
