Dr. Joyce Announces $24 Million Grant to Support New Infrastructure in Johnstown

November 16, 2021

Washington, DC ? Today, Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13) announced that the U.S Department of Transportation awarded the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability andamp; Equity (RAISE) Grant tothe City of Johnstown. In July, Congressman Joyce sent a letter to Secretary of Transpiration Pete Buttigieg advocating for this critical funding.

The City of Johnstown was awarded $24,488,164 in funding, just shy of the $25 million maximum amount possible to receive from a RAISE Grant.

The funds will be used to construct the "Iron-to-Arts Corridor" transportation project. This includes upgrading the Johnstown Train Station, restoring the historic Inclined Plane transit system to full function, improving the CamTran Downtown Intermodal Transportation Center, and connecting these transit centers with the economic hubs via the Main Street Greenway.

"This funding will directly support the Johnstown community as it continues to expand and reinvent itself in the 21st century. The ?Iron-to-Arts Corridor' pays tribute to the community's historic past while also helping to expand access to local businesses and tourism," said Dr. Joyce "I am grateful to our local community leaders for their vision and diligence to ensure that these resources will be invested wisely in the future and continued growth of Johnstown."

"Today's announcement is of historic proportions and will greatly benefit the Greater Johnstown region and beyond. It is a true testament to the bipartisan collaboration across all levels local, state, and federal. As chair of the Senate Transportation Committee and a key advocate for this funding, I look forward to its implementation and the catalyst it will be to spur further economic activity in our region," said State Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr.

"The RAISE grant is a reflection of everyone in Johnstown coming together with a common purpose from legislators to main street business owners. This grant is only the beginning of many more to come in our community," said Mike Tedesco, President/CEO of Vision Together 2025

Congressman Joyce is available for further comment on this grant.
