Dr. John Joyce Appointed to Powerful House Energy & Commerce Committee

January 14, 2021

Washington, DC Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) this week was appointed to serve on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. It is the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee.

"It is an honor to join the historic Energy and Commerce Committee and help to shape policy solutions for the 21st century. Pennsylvania is a bastion of health care, energy, and telecom resources. Our Commonwealth is also home to the hardworking people who are leading these industries into the future, and I am proud to serve as their voice," said Dr. Joyce. "As a physician who spent more than 25 years serving patients, I am especially looking forward to using my firsthand experience to improve Americans' access to quality and affordable health care. Now more than ever, it is critical that we advance conservative and free market solutions for the vital health care, energy, and telecom issues under the Energy and Commerce Committee's jurisdiction."

In Congress, Dr. Joyce already is leading on key issues within the Energy and Commerce Committee's jurisdiction, including championing rural broadband access, lowering prescription drug prices, reducing burdensome regulations for Pennsylvania's energy industry, and strengthening the pipeline of doctors entering rural communities through his Homegrown Health Care Initiative.

"Having Congressman John Joyce on Energy and Commerce is great news for our team and especially for the people of Pennsylvania. He's already a leader on policies to improve rural health care and support Pennsylvania's energy production. I look forward to working with him to build on this work and deliver results so America wins the future," said House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05).
