Dr. Joyce Cosponsors Legislation to Honor Fallen Servicemembers

Washington, DC Today, Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13) released the following statement after cosponsoring legislation introduced by Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. military servicemembers who were killed in Afghanistan on August 24, 2021.

The legislation would award the Congressional Gold Medal to USMC Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover, USMC Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, USMC Sgt. Nicole Gee, USMC Cpl. Hunter Lopez, USMC Cpl. Daegan Page, USMC Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, USMC Cpl. David Lee Espinoza, USMC Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, USMC Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, USMC Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, USMC Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, USN Hospitalman Maxton Soviak and USA Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss.

"These 13 U.S. servicemembers gave their lives while working to protect Americans and our allies. While we can never repay the debt we owe them, it is my hope that this Congressional Gold Medal shows we will never forget their courage or their sacrifice," said Rep. John Joyce.
