Dr. Joyce: Innovation Is Key for 21st Century Cybersecurity

June 30, 2021

Washington, DC Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today advocated for stronger network security, which can be achieved through public-private partnerships. In today's Subcommittee on Communications and Technology hearing entitled "A Safe Wireless Future: Securing our Networks and Supply Chains," Dr. Joyce encouraged an "all of the above" approach to network security that will establish a firm foundation for the future nation's cybersecurity.

"The federal government must partner with these innovators to ensure that our nation's networks and data are secure," said Dr. Joyce. "Cybersecurity needs to be present in all areas: education, business, energy, health care, communications, and defense."

During the hearing, Dr. Joyce highlighted a successful public-private partnership in Adams County that is bolstering our region's cybersecurity posture.

"In fact, within my district, Gettysburg College and cybersecurity company Fortinet established a partnership to modernize campus cybersecurity defending the network from nefarious actors. This partnership could serve as a potential model for our country's cyber-ecosystem," he added.
