Dr. Joyce: The NDAA Supports our Servicemembers and Keeps Americans Safe

September 23, 2021

?Now is the time for peace through strength?

Washington, DC Today, Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13) called for all members of Congress to stand with our servicemembers and pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Yesterday, in a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives Congressman Joyce highlighted the essential need to pass this legislation to fund our military that includes key proposals that support our servicemembers.

"I am proud that this legislation protects our military from the Administration's reckless spending cuts that would have made Americans less safe," said Dr. Joyce. "By increasing the base pay of our men and women in uniform and ensuring they have the freedom to make their own health care decisions, this bill is a victory for our nation's servicemembers."

The National Defense Authorization Act, which passed in the House tonight, includes critical protections for our nation's servicemembers. These ensure that members of our armed forces cannot be dishonorably discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccination as well as protecting their free speech on social media.

An amendment sponsored by Congressman Joyce to enhance our security against biochemical threats was passed. Amendment 849 ensures that the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in coordination with the Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security, would work to develop a national biodefense science and technology strategy.
