Dr. Joyce Presses Dr. Fauci, Biden Public Health Leaders on Future of COVID-19 Vaccines
Washington, DC During today's Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations hearing entitled "Leading the Way Forward: Biden Administration Actions to Increase COVID-19 Vaccinations," Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) asked the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director of National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci and other Biden public health officials about the future of COVID-19 vaccination innovation and planning in the United States, including the process for vaccinating pediatric patients and high-risk individuals.
"Safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines are the key to crushing the pandemic and getting Americans safely back to work and school. As I discussed with Dr. Fauci today, it is crucial for the NIH and American scientists who are working on second generation vaccine research to prioritize solutions that will make vaccines easier and more efficient to administer to patients, such as intranasal options for children," said Dr. Joyce. "It also is important to prioritize the vaccination of high-risk patients, such as those undergoing dialysis treatments. As a nation, we must continue to advance COVID-19 vaccine research and deployment."
During the hearing, Dr. Joyce also asked Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky to prioritize the vaccination of high-risk kidney patients undergoing dialysis in Pennsylvania and around the country.
