Dr. Joyce Recognizes the Presbyterian Church of the Upper West Conococheague

July 18, 2023

Washington, DC – Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and celebrate the 285th Anniversary of the Presbyterian Church of the Upper West Conococheague in Mercersburg.

The Presbyterian Church of the Upper West Conococheague has welcomed worshippers since its founding in 1738 and has stood in its current location since 1794, when President George Washington served his second Presidential term.  Today, the Church remains a welcoming home for an active and engaged congregation, known across the greater Mercersburg community for its active mission projects and civic engagement.

“Our nation was born on the fundamental belief that no government and no king can tell us what to believe or how to worship,” said Dr. Joyce. “For the past 285 years, the Presbyterian Church of the Upper West Conococheague has stood as a testament to that principle.”
