Dr. Joyce Statement on Reopening of Adams & Cumberland Counties

October 6, 2020

Chambersburg, PA Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) issued the below statement on Governor Tom Wolf's announcement that twelve Pennsylvania counties, including Adams and Cumberland, will transition into the "yellow phase" of reopening on Friday, May 22.

"Once again, I am relieved that Governor Wolf will allow select Pennsylvania counties to begin the reopening process, but it is concerning that his administration has yet to explicitly outline the metrics that counties must meet to reopen.

"In addition to its tragic cost of human lives, the coronavirus pandemic has claimed too many livelihoods. In central Pennsylvania, we have done our part to stop the spread of this virus and to save lives. Each of us has made costly sacrifices to safeguard our community, and our hard work has paid off.

"Across the commonwealth, hardworking families are trying to make it through these trying days with little certainty of the reopening process. As the people of Adams and Cumberland Counties join their fellow Pennsylvanians in the yellow phase, I continue to call on Governor Wolf to be transparent with the Pennsylvanians who remain under his stay at home order they deserve to know why they cannot yet get back to work."

Additional details about the yellow phase are available from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

This week, Dr. Joyce urged Governor Wolf to prioritize the comprehensive health care needs of Pennsylvanians during this extended period of aggressive mitigation. Read more here.
