Dr. Joyce Urges Congressional Democrats to Preserve Hyde Amendment, Prevent Taxpayer-Funded Abortion
Washington, DC Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) joined 199 fellow House Republicans to urge Congressional Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, to preserve the Hyde Amendment. Since 1976, this long-supported amendment has prohibited taxpayer dollars from funding abortion procedures.
"As the Biden-Harris Administration begins with full Democrat control of the U.S. Congress, pro-life Americans must stand united to save the imperiled Hyde Amendment," said Dr. Joyce. "No American taxpayer should be forced to fund abortion against their conscience. I will always advocate to preserve the Hyde Amendment as a key pro-life protection, and I urge Congressional Democrats to heed their own calls for unity and dispense with any plans to repeal this longstanding bipartisan measure."
In their letter to Congressional leadership, Dr. Joyce and his colleagues pledge to vote against any government funding bill that eliminates or weakens the Hyde Amendment or other current-law, pro-life appropriations provisions. Read their full letter.
Dr. Joyce recently outlined his pro-life legislative agenda, including efforts to save the Hyde Amendment, in the Somerset Daily American. Read his full op-ed.###
