Dr. Joyce Welcomes VP Pence to Westmoreland County

October 6, 2020

Somerset, PA Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) today welcomed Vice President Mike Pence to Westmoreland County for a discussion with national and local pro-life leaders hosted by the Susan B. Anthony List.

"As a doctor who took an oath to defend the sanctity of human life, I am proud to stand up alongside Vice President Pence to protect innocent children. Western Pennsylvania is home to incredible pro-life advocates who work tirelessly to advocate for the unborn, support families, and offer hope to our community," said Dr. Joyce. "Today Vice President Pence witnessed our region's dedication to pro-life values in words and deeds. It is my honor to work alongside President Donald Trump, Vice President Pence, and our local leaders to serve as a voice for the voiceless."

Vice President Pence and Dr. Joyce were joined by a number of pro-life leaders at today's event, including Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser and Pennsylvania Family Policy Council President Michael Geer.

Background:
Dr. Joyce, who practiced medicine in central Pennsylvania for more than 25 years, is a strong defender of life. Since taking office in January 2019, Dr. Joyce has championed legislation to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion services providers. Additionally, he is a co-sponsor of H.R. 692, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Recently, Dr. Joyce led efforts alongside the Trump Administration to close loopholes that allow the prescription drug mifepristone, which is used to terminate pregnancies, to be mailed to expectant mothers. As a reflection of his pro-life commitment in Congress, Dr. Joyce has perfect scores from the Susan B. Anthony List, the Family Research Council, and National Right to Life.
