Dr. Joyce’s Office Now Accepting U.S. Service Academy Nominations through November 1st

September 20, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), announced that his office is accepting applications for nomination to the U.S. Service Academies:  the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

The deadline to apply for a nomination is Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Dr Joyce released the following statement regarding this year’s nomination process:

“Nominating young men and women from Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District to our nation’s service academies is an honor,” said Congressman Joyce. “The academies provide exceptional training and education to our nation’s best and brightest students as they prepare for service in our nation’s armed forces, and I’m proud to see students from across our district among their ranks.”

Details:

  • A nomination does not guarantee admission. If an individual receives a nomination from the Congressman’s office, next, they must receive an appointment from the service academy.
  • Nominations are determined by a board of community members from across Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District who are themselves graduates of our nation’s service academies. All applicants are required to conduct an in-person interview with the board before receiving a nomination.
  • The honor of attending a U.S. Service Academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
  • Upon graduation, individuals receive a bachelor’s degree and are commissioned as military officers.
  • In addition to meeting the minimum eligibility requirements, the Congressman’s office recommends that each applicant excel academically and demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities through their schools and in their communities.
