Joyce Announces $1M Grant for Somerset County

October 6, 2020

Somerset, PA Today Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) announced that the Somerset County Commission has received a $1,000,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). This funding will expand the Twin Lakes Center's drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation services, increasing the number of beds at the Center and expanding the availability of professional support services.

"Combatting the drug crisis requires an ?all-hands-on-deck' approach, and I am grateful to President Trump and the ARC for recognizing the critical role facilities like Twin Lakes Center play in addressing this epidemic," said Congressman Joyce. "This POWER grant will allow Twin Lakes Center to expand its capacity to care for those in recovery and continue offering hope and support to our community. On behalf of Somerset County, I thank the President for this significant investment, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside his Administration, fellow physicians and lawmakers, and local leaders in PA-13 to identify and implement commonsense solutions."

Through its POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization) grant program, ARC invests in communities affected by America's changing energy economics, including Somerset County.

"The substance abuse epidemic has impacted communities throughout the Appalachian Region, including in Pennsylvania," said ARC Federal Co-Chairman Tim Thomas. "This POWER investment will enable Somerset County to gain resources and facilities to help those who have committed to recovery, and all those impacted by this crisis, which strengthens those communities."
