Joyce To Democrats: “Do You Have Any Interest In Legislation To Improve The Lives Of the American People?”

October 6, 2020

House Democrats today voted to pass H. Res 430, legislation to give them further authority to continue their efforts to relitigate the Mueller Investigation. The resolution, passed entirely on party lines, will allow the House Judiciary Committee and other House panels to enforce its subpoenas on Trump administration officials such as Attorney General William Barr and former White House counsel Don McGahn. Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) opposed the resolution and issued the following statement after the vote:

"With less than two months before we return home for a month long August recess, Democrats continue to make it clear their sole priority is wasting taxpayer time and dollars, rather than legislating for the good of the American people. Robert Mueller and 40 FBI agents conducted a thorough, $25 million investigation consisting of 2,800 subpoenas and 500 witness interviews. Mr. Mueller's report found no collusion between President Trump and Russia and the case is now closed.

"My question to my colleagues across the aisle is this: Do you have any interest in legislation to improve the lives of the American people? These next two months give us the opportunity to create 176,000 jobs through passage of the USMCA, lower the cost of prescription drugs through the Ensuring Timely Access to Generics Act of 2019, and put a stop to the crisis at the southern border and keep our citizens safe through the Fix the Immigration Loopholes Act. All of these measures will have real impact in Cumberland, Adams, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Blair, Bedford, Somerset, Cambria and Westmoreland.

"My focus in the weeks leading up to recess will be to do what the people of the 13th District sent me to Washington to do, and push to get these much needed reforms over the finish line. Ignoring the needs of the American people in order to engage in the political theater of endless investigations should not be an option. The American people are tired of politics coming before policy and I hope Democrats come to their senses and work with me on these common sense solutions."

BACKGROUND

  • Joyce is the author of The Ensuring Timely Access to Generics Act of 2019, which provides direction to the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) on how to curb the amount of unnecessary citizens petitions, which are tactics brand drug manufacturers often use in order to delay generic medications from accessing the market.
  • Joyce is a cosponsor of the Fix the Immigration Loopholes Act, legislation that fixes the Flores settlement to allow children and parents to be sheltered together in custody, keeps children safe by prohibiting DHS from releasing a child into the custody of any person besides a parent or legal guardian, ensures unaccompanied alien children can be quickly and safely returned home, and strengthens the asylum system by tightening the ?credible fear' standard.
