Joyce Lands Spots On Homeland Security, Small Business Committees
Joins Pro-Life and Rural Broadband Caucuses
The House Republican Steering Committee today selected Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) to serve on the Homeland Security and Small Business committees.
The House Committee on Homeland Security, which will be lead by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), was created by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002 in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. The Committee provides Congressional oversight on the Department of Homeland Security and handles issues related to counterterrorism, intelligence, cybersecurity, transportation security and emergency preparedness.
Speaking about his appointment to the House Committee on Homeland Security, Joyce said, "A primary duty of Congress is to protect the American people. This role will put me at the forefront of our national security issues and is a responsibility I take seriously. Since September 11th, we have made great strides in combating terrorism and I look forward to continuing the fight."
The House Committee on Small Business considers legislation on issues involving Federal procurement and contracts, as well as the regulatory climate for small firms. It will be lead by Rep. Nydia M. Vel?zquez (D-NY) and Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH). After learning of the appointment, Joyce highlighted how his experience running a medical practice will give him insight for his new post.
"Having your elected representative on the House Committee on Small Business is a huge win for the people of the 13th District," said Congressman Joyce. "As someone who has signed paychecks for members of my office for over 25 years, I have seen first-hand some of the unique hurdles faced by entrepreneurs in our region. This role will empower me to work on commonsense reforms that will reduce red tape and allow for job creators to grow and expand their businesses."
Dean of the Pennsylvania Republican Delegation, Rep. Glenn ?GT' Thompson (PA-15), who was instrumental in guiding Joyce through the Steering process, added, "I know that Congressman Joyce will be a strong advocate for Pennsylvania on the House Homeland Security and Small Business committees. He brings a breadth of experience and leadership to these committee assignments, and I know he will work diligently to serve his constituents and all Americans."
"The confidence House Republican leaders have shown in me is extremely humbling and I am excited to begin participating on these two outstanding committees," concluded Joyce.
Since taking office on January 3rd, Congressman Joyce has also joined the Pro-Life and Rural Broadband caucuses. The 13th District lawmaker will announce his complete slate of caucus memberships in the near future.
