Joyce Opposes Job Killing Minimum Wage Bill

October 6, 2020

Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) today voted against H.R. 582, legislation that will raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the measure could lead to the elimination of over 3.7 million jobs by 2025. The 13th District lawmaker issued the following statement after opposing the bill:

andldquo;As a small business owner, I believe that the market should determine what companies pay their workers, not the government. A primary reason that I want to serve in Congress is to implement pro-growth policies that will create jobs. The facts are clear that this legislation will do the exact opposite.

andldquo;If we really want to raise wages for our workers, the solution is not a government overreach that will kill jobs and drive companies out of business. Instead, we need to continue to get government out of the way by passing legislation to make the tax cuts permanent for small businesses, further reducing the regulatory burdens which force employers to spend fortunes on compliance costs, and make it easier for businesses and schools to partner on job training programs that will allow us to fill all the good-paying skilled labor positions that we have available in the 13th District.andrdquo;
