Joyce Statement on the FY 2021 Defense Authorization

October 6, 2020

Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) released the below statement following House passage of H.R. 6395, the Mac Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

"Providing for America's national defense and our troops is a fundamental responsibility of the U.S. House of Representatives. Congress is continuing to rebuild our Armed Forces and equip our servicemembers to protect Americans at home and abroad. This legislation provides much-needed support for military families in Pennsylvania and beyond, including a three percent pay raise for our troops and improvements to health care, childcare, and other resources for their families.

"As we confront 21st century challenges, the NDAA is making important investments to bolster American innovation to help our nation maintain a technical edge against China. This legislation also lays the foundation for an increased defense against the Chinese Communist Party. Additionally, it will bolster our military's ability to combat coronavirus and keep servicemembers safe.

"I am pleased that the final legislation includes my amendment to ensure that small businesses are given a fair shot at winning federal contracts and contributing to America's robust defense industrial base. This provision is a fiscally-responsible opportunity to achieve government-wide cost savings and maximize opportunities for small businesses and American workers.

"The brave members of our Armed Forces serve and sacrifice for our nation each day. It is both my privilege and my responsibility to support the warfighter."
