Joyce Visits Global SFC in Somerset To Highlight Skilled Labor Opportunities Resulting From New Military Projects

October 6, 2020

Congressman John Joyce (R-PA-13) visited Global/SFC Valve Corporation in Somerset to see firsthand the skilled jobs and business that the production of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers brings to the region. Global/SFC Valve manufactures Navy high pressure steam valves, Hydraulic Accumulators, and Underway Replenishment equipment for the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier program.

During his tour, Congressman Joyce met with the employees at the facility to discuss the unique skills they contribute to the industrial base that supplies parts to the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier program and the technological advancements at the company such as on-floor tablets displaying procedure work instructions, assembly and testing videos available to each employee.

andldquo;It was great to tour Global SFC to learn about how rebuilding our nation's Navy is leading to a number of good paying manufacturing jobs in the 13th District,andrdquo; said Congressman Joyce. andldquo;It is my goal to make sure those living in south western Pennsylvania are the ones who receive the benefits of these new military projects and that companies like Global SFC can hire from within their communities and don't have to go elsewhere to find talent. Partnering with regional technical schools to make sure we are turning out the students to fill these jobs is a major priority for me and for Global SFC.andrdquo;

andldquo;It was a pleasure to show Congressman Joyce how our dedicated workforce is working hard to eliminate costs to the aircraft carrier program without jeopardizing the high standard of quality that keeps these great ships in the fleet,andrdquo; said Bob Kirst, President/CEO, Global SFC Valve Corporation.

With the recent announcement of the U.S. Navy's contract award to Huntington Ingalls Industries for the construction of the next two Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers, CVN 80 and CVN 81, Global SFC will be expanding its operations in the near future.

Currently, 137 aircraft carrier suppliers in Pennsylvania contribute more than $369.8 million worth of parts and services for the aircraft carrier program per vessel. This industrial base work provides more than 4,000 jobs (directly and indirectly) for the men and women of Pennsylvania.
