Joyce Votes To Approve Supplemental Funding To Address Border Crisis

Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) released the following statement after the House passed, H.R. 3401, a bipartisan supplemental funding bill that allocates $4.5 billion to address the crisis at the southern border:

"For the first time since I took office, the House today exercised some common sense regarding the situation at the southern border. It is clear that the will of the American people is starting to break through and inspire action from the same Democrats who once claimed that the crisis was manufactured.

"And while it would more beneficial to have passed it weeks ago when President Trump first made his emergency funding request to Congress, this bill will provide much needed resources to the hardworking men and women in law enforcement stationed on our southern border. I am proud to be a part of this significant bipartisan action from Congress, which includes $21 million for counter-human trafficking operations, $70 million to ensure our ICE agents are paid for their overtime, $65 million for 30 new Immigration Judge Teams, and $145 million for military assistance, such as National Guard troops.

"It is my hope that this bipartisan effort can be the first of many that we undertake on immigration. Democrats finally realize that their position to allow open borders is no longer justifiable in the eyes of the public, and that fact should be used as fuel for further initiatives such as closing the loopholes in our asylum system and funding the construction of the wall.

"After the July district work period, I look forward to returning Washington and finally passing the Fix the Immigration Loopholes Act so we can begin to put an end to the crisis at our border once and for all."
