Rep. Joyce Announces U.S. Service Academy Appointment for Eli Burtner of Somerset County

February 24, 2022

Washington, DC – Congressman John Joyce M.D. (PA-13) today announced that Eli Burtner of Somerset County has been offered an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy for the Class of 2026. Eli resides in Somerset, Pennsylvania and is a student at Somerset High School and is the son of Christopher and Kerri Burtner.

“Congratulations to Eli Burtner of Somerset County upon his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy for the Class of 2026. Last fall, it was my privilege to nominate Eli and to recognize his strong desire to serve our nation. Through his exemplary preparation, Eli already has demonstrated a dedication to grow, lead, and serve,” said Congressman Joyce. “The service academy appointment process is highly selective and competitive. I am thrilled that Eli has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, and I commend him and his family on this great achievement.”

All prospective students wishing to attend a U.S. service academy must be nominated by a Member of Congress or another U.S. official and then are rigorously evaluated by the service academies, which determine appointments. All appointments for the Class of 2026 will be announced on a rolling basis throughout the spring.

More information about the service academy nominating and appointment process is available here.
