Rep. Joyce Hosts Vietnam Veteran Pinning Ceremony with Rocky Bleier, PA State Lawmakers
Altoona, PA Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) today participated in a special event with former Steeler Rocky Bleier and local lawmakers to recognize the service and sacrifice of Blair County's Vietnam veterans.
Congressman Joyce co-hosted this afternoon's Vietnam War Period Commemoration Pinning Ceremony alongside Pennsylvania State Senator Judy Ward (SD-30), State Representative Jim Gregory (HD-80), and State Representative Lou Schmitt (HD-79).
"Our Vietnam veterans have a significant legacy of service not only in wartime, but also at home in our community," said Congressman Joyce. "It was my privilege to recognize more than 400 Blair County veterans today who answered the call to duty over fifty years ago. Such service comes at a cost. Today and every day, our veterans should be recognized for their enduring dedication to our nation."
At today's pinning ceremony at the Jaffa Shrine Center, each veteran received a Vietnam Veteran Commemoration Lapel Pin that was designed to recognize, thank, and honor those who served during the period of the Vietnam War, between November 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975. To highlight the service of Vietnam veterans and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the war, the U.S. Secretary of Defense initiated a national pinning program, which aims to honor the 6.4 million Vietnam veterans throughout the United States.
