Subcommittee On Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade and Entrepreneurship Names Joyce Ranking Member
Congressman John Joyce (PA-13) today was named Ranking Member of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade and Entrepreneurship.
The Subcommittee will address polices that enhance rural economic growth, increase America's energy independence and ensure small businesses can compete in the global marketplace. It will also have oversight of programs targeted to rural development, environmental issues and regulations, international trade policy, intellectual property rights and the Small Business Administration's (SBA) entrepreneurial development programs.
andldquo;In today's ever-changing economic landscape, rural America often does not get the attention it deserves from Washington,andrdquo; said Congressman Joyce. andldquo;Since there are so many small farms in the 13th District, I felt it was important to push for a leadership role on this subcommittee so I could better advocate for my constituents. The people I represent know as well as any in the country how burdensome regulations can impede farms from reaching their true economic potential, and I look forward to receiving their input on these issues and fighting for the entire agriculture community.andrdquo;
The counties Joyce represents contain roughly 1.5 million of the 7.6 million total acres of farm operations in Pennsylvania andndash; nearly 20 percent. The average farm in these counties is just over 158 acres.
Small Business Committee Ranking Republican Member Steve Chabot (R-OH) noted that Joyce's medical background will provide him with the experience necessary to excel in his new post. andldquo;Dr. Joyce has dedicated most of his life to serving others as a physician,andrdquo; said Chabot. andldquo;I am confident that he will apply that same level of commitment and enthusiasm to serving small businesses in his role as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Rural Development, Entrepreneurship, and Trade. I look forward to working with him in the 116th Congress.andrdquo;
The House Committee on Small Business Wednesday will conduct its first hearing of the year, examining the economic impact of the recent government shutdown.
