Joyce Welcomes Vice President Pence to Somerset
SOMERSET, PA Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) today welcomed Vice President Mike Pence to Somerset for a visit to Guy Chemical Company and a speech on America's economic recovery from the coronavirus crisis.
"It was a privilege to welcome Vice President Pence back to Pennsylvania's 13th Congressional District today as we look ahead to America's recovery from the coronavirus crisis. The hardworking people of Pennsylvania are eager to get safely back to work and achieve a Great American Comeback," said Congressman Joyce. "Small businesses like Guy Chemical are not only the backbone of our economy, they are the heart of our community. Thanks to our highly skilled and dedicated workforce, Pennsylvania is a great place to build a business. Now more than ever, it's critical that we bring the manufacturing of chemicals, technology, and medical supplies home to America and away from the Chinese Communist Party.
"As we move forward, the United States must combat the Chinese government's overreach, create American jobs for American workers, and equip the next generation of Americans to lead in global manufacturing and innovation. I'm grateful for Vice President Pence's leadership to protect Americans from the health and economic ramifications of the coronavirus crisis, as well as to restore our economy to its full potential. Together, we will keep fighting to deliver pro-growth, pro-worker solutions for Pennsylvanians," added Congressman Joyce.
Ahead of Vice President Pence's remarks, Dr. Joyce participated in a roundtable discussion on Pennsylvania's robust workforce and small business community. Joined on the panel by Pennsylvania Manufactures President David Taylor and Guy Chemical Vice President Bruce Contino, Dr. Joyce discussed the path forward to restore America's competitiveness and beat China in the race to next-generation innovation.
Background:
Last summer, Dr. Joyce welcomed Vice President Pence to Franklin County to tour the Manitowoc Crane Company and tout the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). During this visit in 2019, Vice President Pence praised Dr. Joyce for "leading the fight for free and fair trade."
In addition to serving on the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Small Business Committee, Dr. Joyce is a member of the China Task Force. As the only doctor on the task force, he is working to restore America's technology edge, bolster our nation's competitiveness, and strengthen America's supply chains for medicine, technology, and other vital supplies.
